Au Revoir Karl

At Paris Fashion Week, Chanel featured the final collection of Karl Lagerfeld at their FW 2019 runway show on March 5th. Lagerfeld led the creative brain at the house from 1982 until his death two weeks ago.

Chanel held a full minute of silence as an homage to Lagerfeld. Models entered and stood silently at the top of the runway as a voice on the PA system asked for one minute of silence in French and English. The silence was followed by Lagerfeld’s voice talking about the art of the fashion show and building Chanel into the brand it is today.

Chanel shows are known for their over-the-top production of transforming spaces to bring unique experiences to the attendees. For this show, they created an Alpine ski village with mountains in the distance inside the Grand Palais. The winter wonderland theme was named Chalet Gardenia, which was imagined by the late Lagerfeld himself and his successor Virginie Viard.

The Grand Palais being a favored location for Lagerfeld’s Chanel presentations, this show was an exquisite au revoir to the designer.
